ALL ABOUT BEACH POLO

Beach Polo is played on the most beautiful beaches around the world in a specially fitted polo arena on sand, reduced in size compared to the traditional grass polo fields, allowing the audience to follow the impacting game at close range guaranteeing great entertainment accompanied by that touch of glamour that stands for the international polo lifestyle.

During two days 4 polo teams will be competing for the tournaments trophy.

Each beach polo team is formed by 3 players – professionals and patrons.

Each game consists of 4 ‘chukkers’ – playing time with a duration of 5 minutes each.

Between each ‘chukker’ players have 3 minutes time to change to a fresh horse in order to not tier the polo ponies on the sand.

Therefor each player will bring between 3 to 4 polo ponies.

Polo ponies though referred as ‘ponies’ are quite regular size horses with a great ability for speed, quick stoping and turning as the games are fast and furious.

In beach polo tournaments a orange/red ball – for more visibility, lighter and slightly larger then the traditional bocha/polo ball is used in order to not get stuck in the sand.

Players are allowed to ride off / push their opponents though only on a straight line of play without crossing each other’s lines/right of way.

Note, that the direction of play is changed after each scored goal.

The 2 winning teams of the first days games will be competing for the trophy on the second day of the tournament, whilst the other 2 teams will compete for the subsidiary trophy.
